YOG million deeds challenge
By Jonathan Wong
SINGAPORE 2010 Youth Olympic Games Million Deeds Challenge was launched on Tuesday to get Singaporeans to connect to the Olympic values and movement through deeds of excellence, friendship and respect.

Ms Grace Fu, Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education, launched the campaign at the Jurong Regional Library.

Each deed posted on the campaign website will move the virtual Youth Olympic flame across the world map, deed by deed, from Greece to Singapore, passing through the 205 National Olympic Committees.

Said Mr Ng Ser Miang, Chairman of the Singapore YOG Organising Committee: 'Through this Challenge, we aim to develop communities and strengthen the connections between young people using New Media technology, even before the YOG begins next August.'

The website idea was inspired by students of Holy Innocents' High School, who after a student leadership conference organised by the school, decided to form a Facebook group to share their experiences and deeds.

Ms Fu said: 'It is fitting that what began within one school in Singapore has now rippled onto the national level.'
