SINGAPORE is a top immigration hot spot, according to a global survey conducted by Gallup.

If it were to take in all adults who wish to settle in the country, its adult population of 3.6 million would jump to 13 million, said the survey released this week.

Gallup arrived at this figure by using what it called the Potential Net Migration Index (PNMI).

LIQUOR distributor Giorgio Ferrari is claiming more than $6 million from LifeBrandz, the company behind nightspot Cafe Del Mar and the now-defunct Ministry of Sound.

Teen loan-shark runner appeals

A LAWYER has stepped in to help a 16-year-old girl appeal against a four-year sentence for loan- shark-related crimes. Mr Shriniwas Rai has taken on the case of Nur Azilah Ithnin for free.

In August, the teenager had pleaded guilty before a Community Court to seven of 13 charges of harassing debtors, mischief by fire and attempted mischief.

Aussie firm wins local suit

A SINGAPORE company has lost its suit against an Australian mining company which backed out of a multi-million-dollar deal between them following last year's Sichuan earthquake.

The High Court on Wednesday ruled in favour of Australia-based Newport Mining, which walked away from buying a stake in Norwest Holdings' China subsidiary in the quake-hit province.
