SINGAPORE clocked its highest number of H1N1 cases in a day with 145 new patients on Sunday even as the first secondary school here delayed re-opening on Monday after one of its teachers tested positive for the virus.

Presbyterian High will stay closed for a week after a teacher, who attended a staff meeting last Friday, became one of the country's 599 confirmed cases.

SOME taxis are holding back from joining the queues at Changi Airport just before 5pm on weekends so that they can collect the higher surcharges which kick in after that time.

Healthway Medical to expand

THE growing demand for health care as well as lower set-up costs is leading one clinic chain to push aggressively with expansion.

Healthway Medical, which owns one of the largest networks of general practice clinics in Singapore, announced earlier this month that it plans to move into the market for specialised medical services with its first eye centre and ear, nose and throat (ENT) centre to open in July.

AYG torch relay kicks off

THE torch relay for the Asian Youth Games (AYG) blazed a spectacular trail across Singapore on Sunday, setting the scene for a nine-day sporting fiesta that will bring together some 1,400 of the continent's finest young athletes.

The flame, which was ignited at dawn by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, will reach the Singapore Indoor Stadium tomorrow night for a glittering opening ceremony attended by all 43 participating countries.
