New NUS education think-tank

THE National University of Singapore (NUS) is intiating a new 'think-tank' to enhance education and teaching methods at the university.

Complaints on lawyers up

MORE people complained against lawyers last year, but nearly half the grouses were found to be groundless after they were probed.

There were 89 complaints referred by the Law Society's governing council to the inquiry panel for the 12 months up to August 2008, up from 63 for the corresponding period up to August 2007.

Errant employers detected

THE Manpower Ministry's taskforce to detect errant employers early has turned up at least 48 companies since it was set up in January.

Five of the companies came to light this week when the media found out that more than 800 of their workers had had their work permits cancelled abruptly.
