Change in monuments law

THE law protecting national monuments is to be remodelled. Parliament on Monday passed the Preservation of Monuments Bill to stiffen penalties against culprits who deface national treasures, or do illegal renovations.

Iras' e-filing website goes down

WITH the looming deadline of April 18 for e-filing, taxpayers trying to file tax returns online were frustrated on Monday when the website of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras) was plagued with technical problems.

Iras said that the e-filing system was experiencing 'intermittent slowness and was unstable' at about 10am Monday, and that taxpayers who were e-filing that morning 'might have experienced system slowness and interruptions'. The website was down throughout the afternoon and only back up around 6pm.
