POLICE nabbed a serial thief on Wednesday during an ambush while he was trying to break into a taxi in Woodlands.

The 46-year-old is believed to be involved in a series of theft from taxis islandwide since April this year.

 
Charged with theft from taxis

A STORE manager was charged in a district court on Friday with two counts of theft and attempted theft from parked taxis at multi-storey carparks.

Lam Kam Wah, 46, believed to be involved in a series of similar cases, allegedly tried to steal items from a taxi at the multi-storey carpark at Block 687 Woodlands Drive 75 at 1.17am on Wednesday.

18 years, 12 strokes for rape

A 38-YEAR-OLD hawker has been jailed for 18 years and ordered to be caned 24 strokes for sexually assaulting his teenage daughter.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the girl's identity, pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of rape and one count of molestation. Another three molestation counts were taken into account during sentencing.

Sept inflation falls again

SINGAPORE'S consumer prices fell in September for a sixth month as property prices slumped.

The consumer price index (CPI) fell 0.4 per cent from a year ago after a 0.3 per cent drop in August 2008, said the Department of Statistics on Friday.
