Fire victim laid to rest

MORE than 200 people packed a hall at the Mandai Crematorium on Wednesday for the funeral of Mr Teo Sze Siong, who died last week in a devastating fire at a Bangkok nightclub.

The 38-year-old air-traffic controller was one of 64 people who lost their lives in the Jan 1 blaze at the Santika Club.

Hongbaos for needy families

INSTEAD of glitzy lanterns and getai shows to celebrate the Chinese New Year, grassroots leaders at Kampong Ubi-Kembangan will spend money on a worthier cause.

The $50,000 saved by staging scaled-down celebrations will go towards hong baos and goodie bags for 700 needy families in the ward.

Birds have 'condo-style' home

ORIENTAL Pied Hornbills in the Singapore Hornbill Project now have a new, 'condominium-style' home.
