THE grounded Singapore Flyer can only resume operations after public safety is fully assured but Law Minister K. Shanmugam does not rule out an early restart.

Speaking to reporters at a bursary awards ceremony on Sunday, Mr Shanmugam, who is also Second Minister for Home Affairs, did not say when the world's largest observation wheel would resume business.

 
Father of paediatrics dies

THE doctor widely regarded as the father of paediatrics in Singapore - and a man who was a mentor to thousands of young physicians - died on Sunday following a short illness.

Emeritus Professor Wong Hock Boon, who founded Singapore's first paediatrics department in the 1960s, was 85.

Worker found dead in dorm

A BANGLADESHI worker was found dead in his dormitory on Sunday, believed to have been covered in a rash.

A Tan Tock Seng Hospital spokesman told The Straits Times that ten other workers have been warded for observation at the Communicable Disease Centre.

Worker hit by Ferrari

AN Indian national was killed on Saturday after he was hit by a Ferrari along Clementi Road. Mr S Raja, a 22-year-old construction worker, was crossing the street near the Japanese School at about 8pm when he was struck by the sports car.

He was flung several metres and died on the spot from severe head injuries.
