MALAYSIAN police were called in on Thursday to keep crowds in check at the new Johor checkpoint as chaos reigned.

Thousands of Malaysian bus commuters pushed, shoved and beat on bus doors, trying to get a seat on a bus travelling to Singapore. Police arrived at 8.30am to assist immigration officers and SBS Transit staff in herding the crowd into bus queues.

 
Workers' pay still an issue

A GROUP of Bangladeshi workers abandoned in their Tagore Lane living quarters when they lost their jobs went to bed on a full stomach on Thursday, but still without the pay they say is owed to them.

THE People's Action Party (PAP) has assured Singaporeans the town councils it runs are in good shape financially.

Early breast screening saves

MORE than 1,200 women have discovered they have breast cancer under the national screening programme that started in 2002.

The good news is that the cancer for 400 of these women is still in the extremely early stage - what is called ductal carcinoma in-situ (DCIS), sometimes referred to as stage zero, before the cancer cells have breached the duct walls.
