MALAYSIA'S new massive customs, immigration and quarantine facility, named the Sultan Iskandar Complex, was in full operation for the first time on Tuesday.

Located at the Causeway, the RM$1.3 billion (S$540 million) multi-storey facility was first opened to vehicles two weeks ago on Dec 2 for motorists to acquaint themselves with it even though immigration checks were still being carried out at the old terminal.

 
Service ends after 2 weeks

THE bitter sibling feud between two bus operators has taken an unexpected turn, with one of them stopping a premium bus service that duplicated his older brother's route.

Mr Alex Lim, 37, said he had suspended his 527 service on Monday, less than two weeks after it began operating.

Illegal cigs found among fish

IMMIGRATION authorities seized more than 70,000 sticks of contraband cigarettes hidden among cartons of frozen fish early on Tuesday.

Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) officers manning the Vehicle and Cargo Inspection system at the Tuas checkpoint noticed some abnormalities in the image of a Malaysia-registered refrigerated truck, an ICA statement said.

New cruise ship in town

A NEW ship sailed into Asia and Singapore for the first time on Tuesday morning. The Azamara Quest arrived in Singapore with some 600 passengers after a 24-night voyage from Athens, Greece.

Local trade and tourism officials welcomed the ship on its maiden turn here.
