THE prospect of a terrorist attack here depends not just on what Singapore does, but also on how well Singapore and its neighbours work together so trouble can be nipped in the bud, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said yesterday.

 
45,000 new jobs

DESPITE the economic slump, Singapore will create more than 45,000 new jobs in the next two years.

About half will be in the two upcoming Integrated Resorts, with the other major employers coming from the health-care, retail and security sectors.

Subsidised drugs for HIV

PEOPLE with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), who have long complained about the cost of medication here, are about to get some relief - the Government has decided to subsidise their medicines.

This change of heart came on Monday, when the Health Minister asked the Communicable Diseases Centre (CDC) to draw up a list of drugs that should be eligible for subsidies.

NTUC co-founder dies

FORMER MP Ho See Beng, a founder of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), died last night at the age of 90. Mr Ho died in hospital after being stricken by pneumonia that led to the failure of his organs.

He was a PAP MP for Bras Basah and Khe Bong for more than 20 years, from 1963 to 1984. His youngest daughter is West Coast GRC MP Ho Geok Choo, who said he served his country passionately and treated his friends generously.
