THE skies between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur opened on Monday, with 29 flights between the two cities, 60 per cent more than the day before.

And right from the first 6.10am departure on Tiger Airways, there were ample bums to fill the seats.

 
Salary increases projected

SINGAPOREANS can still expect to enjoy salary increases next year, despite the economic downturn, but increments will be somewhat smaller than this year's.

Human resources consultancy Mercer Singapore yesterday released its salary projections for 2009 after polling more than 230 firms based here, including multi-national corporations, last month.

IBN head named in '100' list

HEAD of Singapore's Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) Jackie Ying has been named one of the '100 Engineers of the Modern Era' by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

The American grouping drew up this list to mark its 100th anniversary this year. The list honours 100 engineers who have made significant contributions to the profession after World War II. They were divided into three areas: achievement, leadership and new frontiers.

Mum, son hurt, driver fined

HOUSEWIFE Madam Shanti Baskaralingam and her two children were walking along a pavement in Toa Payoh Lorong 8 in May when a lorry suddenly careened towards them.

The 32-year-old instinctively tried to shove her son, Sarugesh, 3, from the impending danger, only to get land in its path herself.
