THE Singaporean being held hostage in a Mumbai's luxury hotel stormed by a team of militant gunmen managed to contact family members here, who in turn alerted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) early on Thursday morning.

'As far as we understand, the Singaporean has not been harmed,' an MFA official said at a media briefing on Thursday.

 
Travellers not taking chances

TRAVELLERS are pulling out of planned trips to Bangkok, as the city's two airports remain closed.

All 20 scheduled flights by 10 airlines yesterday from Changi Airport were cancelled and travel agencies believe it will stay that way for at least another day or two. The previous day, all 19 Bangkok- bound flights were cancelled.

THE strong showing of home-schooled children during this year's Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) has encouraged parents of home-taught pupils who will sit for the test down the road.

Service sector 3Q biz up 11.6%

AMID all the gloom lately, Singapore's important services sector posted an unexpectedly healthy 11.6 per cent rise in business receipts in the third quarter.

But economists are not getting too excited about the result, as they believe the sector - which includes financial services, tourism and education - has already peaked and is headed south.
