SINGAPORE Airlines used to pay cabin crew a gratuity of $15,000 upon completion of five years of service.

This payout has now been cut to $10,000, but a bigger gratuity awaits those who stay on: Junior crew who stay 10 years, for example, will now collect $35,000 - $5,000 more than before.

 
Preschools add Spice to classes

A PAP kindergarten in Block 125 Serangoon North will become the 12th and latest in the PAP Community Foundation (PCF) network to add speech and drama classes to its curriculum and the first to extend it to four-year-olds.

Car reposession held back

BANKS and finance houses are holding back on car repossession in this economic downturn, despite a rising number of loan defaults, say industry sources.

They cite a soft resale market here and weak demand abroad as reasons. With slack demand from abroad, the re-export market, along with the resale value of cars in general, has been hit.

Cluster homes bring noise

WHEN Dr Francis Oen, 47, moved into his terrace house near Lower Delta Road a decade ago, the area was a mix of bungalows, semi-detached homes and terrace houses.

Now, Dr Oen's home faces 11 units of cluster homes, each five storeys high. 'It changes the characteristics of the neighbourhood and disrupts the look of the place,' the Bukit Teresa Close resident said last week.
