NAYPYITAW (Myanmar) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon could leave Myanmar empty-handed after failing to win any concessions on Friday during a rare meeting with the country's top military ruler or to gain permission to visit opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in jail.

 
Burglar falls asleep on the job

BANGKOK - A THAI thief broke into a house but promptly fell asleep inside before stealing anything and was eventually discovered by a housemaid on Friday morning, police told AFP.

Prachak Jarkngooloem, 24, was found at a house in the coastal resort of Pattaya, 150 kilometres (70 miles) south of Bangkok, where he admitted planning to steal goods from the property.

Thai officials say they have come up with an innovative solution: offering the pachyderms for adoption.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will launch an action plan soon to allow women to hold at least 30 per cent of the decision-making positions in both the public and private sectors.

A draft of the action plan, initiated by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and various interest groups four years ago, is now in the final stages.
