KUALA LUMPUR - INDONESIA'S ban on supplying maids to Malaysia in protest over reported employer abuse could prompt more Indonesians to work here illegally, a group representing maid-supply agencies said on Sunday.

Mr Raja Zulkeply Dahalan, president of the Malaysian Association of Foreign Housemaids Agencies, said some 4,000 Indonesian maids were recruited each month in Malaysia before Indonesia announced last week it would enforce a ban until more protections are in place.

PHNOM PENH - LIGHTNING strikes killed five people in Cambodia in a single day, a local newspaper reported on Sunday.

Red Shirts vow more rallies

BANGKOK - THAILAND'S 'Red Shirt' protesters loyal to fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra ended a peaceful rally in Bangkok on Sunday with the promise of more anti-government gatherings in the future.

Thaksin, who is living in exile to avoid a jail term for corruption, urged a crowd of around 25,000 followers not to leave him 'dying in the desert' of Dubai in an impassioned telephone address late on Saturday.

80 new cases in Thailand

BANGKOK - THE Thai Health Ministry has confirmed 80 new cases of swine flu, most of them students in the capital, Bangkok.

Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Prat Boonyavongvirot said on Sunday that 68 of the cases are primary and high school students and the rest are people who had come in contact with them. Dr Prat said none are in serious condition.
