'Wife' turns out to be man

KUALA LUMPUR - A JUDGE in conservative Muslim-majority Malaysia was left flustered when someone claiming to be the wife of a defendant turned out to be a man wearing women's clothes.

Action to protect maids

JAKARTA - INDONESIA ordered employment agencies to stop sending its citizens to Malaysia to work as maids following a flood of complaints from domestic workers that their employers abused them, a government minister said on Thursday.

The measure will take effect on Friday and remain in place until safeguards are implemented in Malaysia, Indonesian Manpower Minister Erman Suparno said after meeting officials from three other Indonesian ministries in the capital, Jakarta.

Yettaw linked to exile groups

YANGON - MYANMAR'S junta said on Thursday that a US man on trial for swimming to the house of Aung San Suu Kyi had links with exile groups in Thailand, apparently toughening its stance ahead of a visit by a UN envoy.
