KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA on Sunday shut down a Chinese-language elementary school in the capital after an 11-year-old girl infected two classmates with swine flu, according to reports here.

 
Abhisit won't back down

BANGKOK - THAI Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva refused to back down on Sunday after reopening a debate over an ancient temple on the disputed border with Cambodia which has provoked bloody clashes.

Bangkok this week asked world heritage body Unesco to reconsider its decision to formally list the 11th century Preah Vihear temple in Cambodia, as ownership of land surrounding the ruins is still in dispute.

Suu Kyi supporters jailed

YANGON - MYANMAR has jailed two supporters of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi for one and a half years for insulting religion after they prayed at a pagoda for her release, her party said on Sunday.

Inmates escape after riot

KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIAN police said 27 drug addicts escaped from a Penang island rehabilitation centre after a riot in which inmates torched buildings and several vehicles, according to reports Sunday.

Anti-Narcotics agency head Abdul Bakir Zin told state media police had recaptured seven of the escapees and were carrying out a manhunt for the remaining 20, all of whom managed to get away in the incident on Friday evening.
