RAUB- FORMER prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Barisan Nasional (BN) should contest the Penanti state seat in Penang.

If not, BN members and supporters in the area would be disappointed besides it would spoil the spirit and dignity of past party champions, he said at a function organised by the Raub Umno Youth here today.

 
Longer state of emergency

BANGKOK - AUTHORITIES on Sunday extended a state of emergency in Thailand's capital, saying efforts to restore security were still incomplete after anti-government rioting last week and a brazen attack on a protest leader.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva met with security agencies to discuss the potential for more protests, riots or attacks in Bangkok, government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said.

Cooperation on migrants
JAKARTA - INDONESIAN President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Sunday his country will work closely with Australia to tackle the influx of migrants arriving on both countries' shores.
Contestant helps with probe

BANGKOK - THAI police said on Sunday they have asked a contestant on a television game show to help identify a vehicle used in an attempt to assassinate a leading political activist.
