JOHOR BARU - MALAYSIA is reopening its old Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex for pedestrians - which means that people will soon be able to cross the Causeway into Malaysia on foot once again.

The reopening will effectively reverse a ban on pedestrian traffic between the two countries, which Malaysia imposed late last year when it opened a new CIQ complex at the Causeway.

 
Yudhoyono campaigns in Bali

SANUR (Indonesia) - INDONESIA'S President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pledged on Saturday to continue the fight against corruption as he campaigned on the island of Bali for next month's legislative election.

Proposed tiger park slammed

KUALA LUMPUR - CONSERVATIONISTS have slammed plans to create a tiger park on Malaysia's resort island of Penang, warning on Saturday that the project would be too expensive to maintain and could lead to illegal wildlife trade.

The Penang government recently proposed setting up a 100-acre (40-hectare) tiger park to boost tourism, a key revenue-earner for the northern state.

Abhisit survives censure

BANGKOK - THAI Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and five ministers on Saturday easily survived a vote of no confidence called by the opposition following a two-day debate on allegations of corruption.

The censure motion against the premier failed with 246 MPs voting for him and 176 against.
