GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said that it has strong evidence to show that Selangor Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim misused his powers over two incidents.

They concern the maintenance of his personal car and the distribution of 46 cows worth RM110,400 for slaughter during Aidil Adha celebrations in his parliamentary constituency of Bandar Tun Razak last December.

 
Lawyer gets death threat

GEORGE TOWN: An envelope containing two live bullets and a death threat had been mailed to Malaysia's opposition DAP chairman Karpal Singh's home.

In his police report lodged at the Penang police headquarters on Friday afternoon, Karpal Singh, a lawyer, said his clerk Ahad Hassan found the envelope sent from Perak in his postbox at his home about 8.15am on Thursday.

Abhisit visits Indonesia

BANGKOK - THAI Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva left for Indonesia on Friday to discuss issues including the treatment of Muslim boat people from Myanmar allegedly towed out to sea by Thai authorities.

Thailand has faced criticism over claims that its security forces abused migrants from the Rohingya minority, hundreds of whom have been rescued in Indian and Indonesian waters in recent weeks.

Philippine remittances to fall

MANILA - REMITTANCES sent home by Filipinos workers are expected to contract by eight per cent this year as the global economic crisis impacts on overseas employment, the Royal Bank of Scotland said on Friday.

The bank said it was reversing its earlier forecast of a two percent contraction as the global crisis will 'hurt the chances of Filipino workers landing jobs abroad.'
