BANGKOK - THAILAND'S justice minister said on Tuesday his office has no dispute with the police department though the ministry has accused officers of botching an investigation into a New Year's Eve fire at a Bangkok nightclub that killed 66 people.

 
Vietnam bans birds on bikes
HANOI - Vietnam's capital Hanoi has banned the transportation of poultry and cattle on motorbikes and bicycles for fear it could help spread epidemics, state media said Tuesday.
Lawmaker beaten to death

MEDAN (Indonesia) - AN INDONESIAN provincial speaker died after he was beaten by a mob on Tuesday which stormed the local parliament building carrying a coffin, officials and witnesses said.

The protesters blamed North Sumatra provincial speaker Azis Angkat for delays in the creation of a new province as approved recently by five local districts.

Election authority intervenes

KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA'S Election Commission on Tuesday rejected the opposition's bid to force the resignation of two of its own state lawmakers who are rumoured to be defecting to the government.
