BANDA ACEH (Indonesia) - THE victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami were honored by thousands of mourners who prayed, burned candles and shared meals on beaches from Indonesia to India on Friday, the fourth anniversary of the catastrophe.

For many, the modest ceremonies were a time to reflect on their lives and weigh progress in rebuilding homes and communities wiped out by the killer waves that struck a dozen nations.

 
Plane landing delayed

MANILA (Philippines) - AN airplane was stuck circling a southern Philippine airport for several minutes before landing Friday because air traffic controllers apparently still in a Christmas holiday mood came in late for work, officials said.

Ex-king fighting cancer

PHNOM PENH - CAMBODIA'S former King Norodom Sihanouk is fighting his third bout with cancer but is optimistic he will recover and return to his homeland from China, according to a message on his website.

The 86-year-old Sihanouk, in a statement dated on Wednesday, said he was being treated by Chinese doctors in Beijing for lymphoma B cancer and would not return to Cambodia as planned in February.
