JAKARTA - A MEETING of South-east Asian foreign ministers will now be held in Jakarta later this month following recent political turmoil in Thailand, an Indonesian official said on Wednesday.

 
Communist rebels kill 5

MANILA, Philippines - COMMUNIST rebels ambushed an army vehicle and killed five soldiers, the military said on Wednesday, after the guerrillas ruled out a resumption of stalled peace talks.

The ambush happened Tuesday as a vehicle carrying administrative army personnel ran over the land mine in Lianga township in Surigao del Norte province in the southern Philippines, army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Brawner said in a statement.

M'sian tourist arrivals to slide

KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIAN tourist numbers are expected to fall by nine per cent next year due to the global economic slowdown and security concerns in the region, deputy premier Najib Razak said on Wednesday.

Golez's words not helping

MANILA - THAILAND on Wednesday voiced concern over recent statements made by Philippine government officials blaming the recent chaos in Bangkok on the alleged political immaturity of Thai people.
