BANGKOK - THAI Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat on Tuesday rejected calls to resign and criticised protesters who are opposed to his elected government for leading a 'rebellion'.

Demonstrators besieged Mr Somchai's makeshift offices at a disused Bangkok airport terminal on Tuesday in the latest stage of a six month campaign against the premier and his administration.

 
Thai Airways boss quits

BANGKOK - THE president of flag carrier Thai Airways resigned from his position on Tuesday, citing poor health and ongoing disagreements with the board, an airline spokesman said.

Apinan Sumanaseni had been stripped of his management duties after a meeting of the airline's board in June, but within hours the Thai Airways union forced them to restore Mr Apinan to his position.

$303m to fight climate change

JAKARTA - FRANCE is set to hand Indonesia US$200 million (S$303 million) in aid to fight climate change in the South-east Asian archipelago nation, the French Development Agency said on Tuesday.

The money will fund a three-year Indonesian government plan to reduce emissions from Indonesia's forestry, industrial and energy sectors, a statement from the agency said.

No coup, says Thai army

BANGKOK - THAILAND'S powerful army chief on Tuesday vowed there would be no coup in the kingdom, despite pleas by anti-government protesters for the military to step in to end the current political crisis.
