YANGON (Myanmar) - A MYANMAR news journal says foreign tourist numbers are down by half at one of the country's most revered Buddhist sites after the country was hit by a devastating cyclone in May that killed more than 84,000 people.

 
Arroyo's foes walk out

MANILA - OPPOSITION congressmen walked out of an impeachment hearing against Philippine President Gloria Arroyo on Tuesday after her allies moved as expected to kill the case, witnesses said.

Thai PM blasts 'rebellion'

BANGKOK - THAI Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat on Tuesday rejected calls to resign and criticised protesters who are opposed to his elected government for leading a 'rebellion'.

Demonstrators besieged Mr Somchai's makeshift offices at a disused Bangkok airport terminal on Tuesday in the latest stage of a six month campaign against the premier and his administration.

Thaksin: I will return

BANGKOK - THAILAND'S ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra said that he plans a return to politics in his homeland and said he can fix the turmoil wracking the country, as protests by his opponents drag on.

Thaksin, who had since his removal in a coup in September 2006 professed his retirement from politics, told Arabian Business magazine that Thailand was suffering after months of anti-government protests.
