BERLIN - CANADIAN auto parts maker Magna is unlikely to meet its target of mid-July for taking over Opel from General Motors, a press report said on Saturday, quoting a source in the economy ministry.

 
Setting out spending plans

LONDON - THE British government will give voters more details of its spending plans before a national election due by next June, finance minister Alistair Darling was quoted on Saturday as saying.

The Daily Telegraph said Mr Darling also raised the possibility, in an interview with the newspaper, of reversing a planned increase in income tax for high earners to 50 per cent.

India will clock high growth

NEW DELHI - INDIAN Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has defended his government's economic growth target of between eight and nine per cent, despite the global recession, a report said on Saturday.

Stimulus launch later this year

WASHINGTON - PRESIDENT Barack Obama said on Saturday more time was needed for his US$787 billion (S$1.2 trillion) stimulus package to work, predicting the spending would have a bigger impact on the economy later this year.
