US stocks dive

NEW YORK - US STOCKS dived on Tuesday as investors worried about whether government remedies would cure the sick economy and banks and two automakers raced to submit restructuring plans for their survival.

Pakistan to seek $6.9b

ARACHI - PAKISTAN is to ask for an additional loan of US$4.5 billion (S$6.9 billion) from the International Monetary Fund to patch up an economy wilting under a widening trade deficit, an official said on Tuesday.

Thailand's $218m rescue fund

BANGKOK - THE Thai cabinet on Tuesday approved a US$143 million (S$218 million) tourism rescue fund to combat waning profits resulting from the downturn in the global economy and last year's Bangkok airport closures.
