NEW YORK - US STOCKS stumbled on Thursday after government figures showed weaker than expected jobless claims and durable orders as well as concerns over earnings of companies reeling from recession.

 
Jobless rate up in Norway

OSLO (Norway) - NORDIC countries Denmark and Norway reported rising unemployment on Thursday, with oil-rich Norway saying the jobless rate rose to its highest level in two and a half years in January.

China freezes operation costs

BEIJING - CHINA'S Ministry of Finance ordered government departments to freeze at current levels spending on cars, meetings and other expenditures this year as the country faces growing pressure amid the global economic crisis, state media said on Thursday.

Kodak to cut 4,500 jobs

ROCHESTER (New York) - EASTMAN Kodak Co said on Thursday it is cutting 3,500 to 4,500 jobs, or 14 per cent to 18 per cent of its work force, as it posted a $137 million fourth-quarter loss on plunging sales of both digital and film-based photography products.
