LONDON - THE company behind Michael Jackson's planned comeback in London that was to have kicked off on Monday said he wanted to stage a one-off tribute concert in the city featuring members of the late pop star's family.

AEG Live signed up the star for 50 concerts at London's O2 Arena starting on July 13, but the 50-year-old singer died in Los Angeles less than three weeks before his eagerly anticipated return to the stage.

 
Brand to host video awards

NEW YORK - MTV SAYS Russell Brand will host the Video Music Awards for the second year in a row.

The live event will be held in New York on Sept. 13.

It will be staged at different venues, including Radio City Music Hall, where the VMAs were broadcast in 2006.

Strike threatens Bayreuth

BERLIN - GERMANY'S Bayreuth opera festival looked set on Tuesday to be hit by its first-ever strike after marathon pay talks between unions representing stage and technical staff and management collapsed.

After almost 17 hours of wrangling ended without result in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Verdi union warned that unless there was a 'much better' pay offer it would not return to the negotiating table.
