CHICAGO - THE company that made President Barack Obama's election night and Inauguration Day threads could stave off liquidation with a joint bid from a British company and an American company.

Hartmarx, which sells business and golf attire, said on Friday it has signed an agreement to sell all its assets for about US$85.5 million (S$123.3 million) to 'stalking horse' bidders Emerisque Brands UK and SKNL North America BV.

 
Lasik must warn risks: FDA

WASHINGTON - DOCTORS, clinics and others promoting corrective eye surgery known as Lasik need to make sure their advertisements tell consumers about possible risks, US regulators said in a letter released on Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration, which has been investigating patient complaints over the procedure, told healthcare providers that commercials and other promotions that do not convey necessary warnings, side-effects and other precautions are deceptive.

Amy cancels comeback show

LONDON - TROUBLED British singer Amy Winehouse has cancelled a planned comeback show in Britain after a prolonged holiday in St Lucia clouded by reports of ill-health, her management said on Friday.
