LONDON - DUFFY, Smokey Robinson and Massive Attack were among the winners at Britain's Ivor Novello Awards on Thursday, which recognises excellence in songwriting.

Welsh diva Duffy's worldwide hit 'Mercy' won the award for most performed work, while Motown legend Robinson - whose songs include 1965's 'The Tracks Of My Tears' - won a special international award.

LOS ANGELES - THE 'American Idol' finale drew its smallest audience since 2004 as an estimated 28.8 million viewers tuned in Wednesday to watch underdog Kris Allen beat Adam Lambert, the Fox network said on Thursday.

The singing competition broadcast on News Corp's Fox network remains the most-watched TV show in the United States despite a decline in ratings over the last two years.

Actress kills herself in Paris

PARIS - BRITISH actor Lucy Gordon, an up-and-coming talent who played a role in Spider-Man 3 and will soon appear as Jane Birkin in a Serge Gainsbourg biopic, has killed herself in Paris, her agent said on Thursday.

The 29-year-old died on Wednesday, Gordon's representative Elisabeth Simpson said in a statement.

Alec Baldwin apologises
