LOS ANGELES - RHYTHM and blues singer Natalie Cole, who has been battling Hepatitis C, received a new kidney in Los Angeles and is resting comfortably, her spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Cole, the 59-year-old daughter of R&B legend Nat 'King' Cole, underwent surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

NEW YORK - BRISTOL Palin, the daughter of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, says she didn't go to her prom or any high school graduation parties because of her responsibilities as a single parent, delivering a cautionary message to any teenager thinking about sex.

'Girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex,' Palin told People magazine in a lengthy interview.

Celebrity yoga guru dies, age 93

NEW DELHI - KRISHNA Pattabhi Jois, the modern guru of ashtanga yoga popularised by celebrities such as Sting and Madonna, has died, according to his institute's website.

Jois, who studied ashtanga yoga from the age of 12, is credited with popularising in the West one of the most rigorous forms of yoga.

'Basterds' take Cannes

CANNES - QUENTIN Tarantino sent a squad of Nazi-killing 'Inglourious Basterds' into Cannes on Wednesday on a blood-and-guts mission to capture the top prize at the world's premier film festival.

'It's the power of cinema that's going to bring down the Third Reich!' said a buoyant Tarantino after he led chief 'Basterd' Brad Pitt and other cast members into a press conference after the movie's world premiere.
