NEW YORK - A VERY early photograph of New York City in the 1840s has sold for US$62,500 (S$95,000).

The photo depicting Manhattan's Upper West Side as open countryside was sold on Monday at Sotheby's auction house.

 
Hendrix home tape for sale

LONDON - A HOME recording by Jimi Hendrix, which its owners said showed the 1960s rock icon's softer side, will be auctioned next month and is expected to fetch between 50,000 and 100,000 pounds (S$105-200,000).

According to co-owner Mark Sutherland, the tape was recorded by Hendrix in New York in 1968 and then taken to Britain.

Madonna adoption delayed

LILONGWE (Malawi) - A MALAWIAN judge held a closed-door hearing on Monday on Madonna's application to adopt a second child from this southern African nation but delayed ruling on the matter until Friday, a court official said.

Madonna spent about an hour in court on Monday in the Malawi capital of Lilongwe.

Hartnett's stomach problems

LOS ANGELES - Josh Hartnett's publicist says the 30-year-old actor has been taken to a Los Angeles hospital with gastrointestinal problems.

Publicist Susan Patricola says Mr Hartnett was transported by ambulance early Monday morning to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
