BEVERLY HILLS (California) - 'THE Curious Case of Benjamin Button' and 'Frost/Nixon' led the Golden Globes with five nominations each, among them best drama. 'Doubt' also got five, including four acting slots.

Other best-drama nominees Thursday: 'The Reader,' 'Revolutionary Road' and 'Slumdog Millionare.'

 
Suicide act turns real

AN ACTOR slit his throat on stage when the prop knife for his suicide scene turned out to be a real one.

Daniel Hoevels, 30, slumped over with blood pouring from his neck while the audience broke into applause at the 'special effect', the Guardian reported on Thursday.

'Lustful Madonna offends God'

SANTIAGO - POP star Madonna's antics are lustful, a stain on humanity and offensive to God, a retired Roman Catholic cardinal said on Wednesday during a mass for the late Chilean military dictator Gen Augusto Pinochet.

Madonna performed in Santiago on the Latin American leg of her Sticky and Sweet Tour to promote her album 'Hard Candy.'
