WASHINGTON - YOUTUBE broadcast its first live event on Saturday, an extravaganza which was part concert and part variety show and which drew comments from viewers ranging from 'AWESOME!' to 'train wreck'.

The popular video-sharing Internet site streamed a two-hour live broadcast at youtube.com/live featuring well- to lesser-known singers, dancers and video bloggers who became online celebrities through YouTube.

 
Emmys to honour Dick Wolf

NEW YORK - PRODUCER Dick Wolf will receive a special honour at the 36th International Emmy Awards for extending the long arm of his 'Law & Order' franchise into almost every corner of the globe.

Sam Waterston, who has appeared as prosecutor Jack McCoy in more than 325 'Law & Order' episodes since 1994, will present the International Emmy Founders Award to Wolf at Monday night's awards gala.

John Lennon forgiven

VATICAN CITY - THE Vatican's newspaper has finally forgiven John Lennon for declaring that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, calling the remark a 'boast' by a young man grappling with sudden fame.

The comment by Lennon to a London newspaper in 1966 infuriated Christians, particularly in the United States, some of whom burned Beatles' albums in huge pyres.

Biggest divorce ever

LONDON - FORMULA One boss Bernie Ecclestone voiced surprise after his wife announced they were splitting, a report said on Friday as experts predicted the divorce may be one of the most expensive ever.

A spokesman for Ecclestone's wife Slavica said on Thursday that she had filed for divorce, but that seemed to come as news to the diminutive motor racing chief when he was asked about it by London's Evening Standard newspaper.
