TORONTO - JOSEPH Boyden, a New Orleans resident who was raised in Toronto, has won the prestigious Scotiabank Giller Prize for his book 'Through Black Spruce.'

'I'm am so deeply humbled to be counted among the writers here,' Boyden, 41, told a packed ballroom as he accepted the C$50,000 (S$61,560) award on Tuesday night.

Art prices plunge to Earth

NEW YORK - SOTHEBY'S on Tuesday bowed to economic realities and slashed prices for much-hyped contemporary art works at an auction where almost a third of lots failed to sell.

The auction in New York of works by headline artists including Jeff Koons, Lucian Freud, Damien Hirst, and Andy Warhol, at times resembled a high-end fire sale.
