US trade deficit widens 10:26 PM

WASHINGTON - THE US trade deficit widened in November to a 10-month high on the back of surging imports, the government said on Tuesday as the trade growth signaled global economic recovery was on track.

The goods and services deficit for the penultimate month in 2009 jumped to US$36.4 billion (S$50.6 billion), up from a revised US$33.2 billion in October, as imports grew faster than exports, the department said in a report.

FROM March, prospective new citizens in Tanjong Pagar, West Coast and Sembawang GRCs will take part in a pilot orientation programme to help them assimilate into Singapore.

Education Minister Ng Eng Hen, disclosing this in Parliament on Tuesday, said these speakers can demonstrate to the students the value of the Chinese language, or take them through certain aspects of Chinese history, culture or geography.
