WASHINGTON - A US congressional advisory panel said on Thursday that Chinese spies are aggressively stealing American secrets to use in building up Beijing's military and economic strength.

The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission also said in its annual report to lawmakers that Beijing is building a navy that could block the US military from getting to the region if fighting should break out between China and Taiwan, the self-governing island off China's southeastern coast that China claims as its own.

 
Just too much rain

THE Bukit Timah canal burst its banks for the first time in years on Thursday, unable to contain the afternoon's downpour.

JOHANNESBURG - CASTER Semenya will keep her world gold 800 medal and a probe into her gender will not be made public, the South African sports ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry said Caster's lawyers, the South African government and athletics' world governing body, the IAAF, had reached 'total agreement' on the issue.
