Taiwan, China sign MOUs 8:45 PM

TAIPEI - TAIWAN signed three long-anticipated financial memorandums of understanding with China on Monday, paving the way for closer cooperation in banking, insurance and securities, the government said.

The memorandums cover information exchange, confidentiality, financial inspection, crisis management and continued contact between the two sides' regulatory agencies, Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission said.

Mercedes takes over Brawn 8:55 PM

BERLIN - MERCEDES on Monday bought a controlling stake in Formula One world champions Brawn GP in a move which is likely to see Jenson Button join McLaren next season.

The German car giant, which has taken a 75 per cent stake in Ross Brawn's team, will be rebranded Mercedes GP, the company's boss Dieter Zetsche announced.

95% flats for 1st-timers 7:15 PM

THE Housing Board (HDB) moved to address flat supply concerns by launching more than 1,000 homes for sale in Punggol on Monday, and by increasing the first-timer's success rate for getting a flat.

With immediate effect, the Board upped the number of flats reserved for first-timers to 95 per cent from 90 per cent currently for all its sales exercises.

Network for fathers 6:24 PM

A NEW movement is out to get men more involved in their children's lives. The Fathers Action Network, led by father of four and chairman of Parkway Holdings Richard Seow, will champion the cause.

Mr Seow, 47, said: 'I can think of few things that are more important to a man than being a father and loving his wife, but this is very easily forgotten in this very materialistic world. Someone once said: 'It's easy to become a dad, but hard to be a dad.''
