UP TO $40,000 in financial assistance is being offered to professionals with viable ideas for a social enterprise that will benefit residents in the North West district.

It is one of several initiatives being rolled out by North West Community Development Council, to assist the increasing number of PMETs, or professionals, managers, executives and technicians, coming forward for job assistance.

 
New hire is lost brother

WALDOBORO (Maine) - SEVEN years into his tenure as a furniture mover for a bedding retailer, Mr Gary Nisbet was joined by a new colleague, Mr Randy Joubert, who looked so much like him that customers asked whether they were brothers.

'We thought they were just trying to razz us,' Mr Joubert said.

China appeals WTO ruling

GENEVA - CHINA appealed on Tuesday against a World Trade Organisation ruling that ordered Beijing to ease some of its curbs on the distribution of foreign films, music and print, a Chinese diplomat said.

'Yes we have appealed this morning,' a Chinese diplomat told AFP, referring to the dispute raised at the WTO by the United States in 2007.

Jailed for killing daughters

LONDON - AN INDIAN-BORN woman who murdered her two teenage daughters with kitchen knives while they slept was jailed for 33 years by a British court on Tuesday.

Hotel waitress Rekha Kumari-Baker stabbed 16-year-old Davina 37 times, and 13-year-old Jasmine 29 times in the early hours of June 13, 2007, Cambridge Crown Court heard.

Briatore may sue FIA

MILAN - FLAVIO Briatore is devastated by his life ban from Formula One for his role in a race-fixing scandal and may take legal action against motor sport's governing body, Italian media reported on Tuesday.

The flamboyant former Renault team boss was handed the sentence by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) on Monday for fixing last year's Singapore Grand Prix by ordering Nelson Piquet to crash.
