THE oldest Anglican church in Singapore, St Andrew's Cathedral, has grown from being a place of worship for homesick English colonials to one that now leads the Anglican community in serving the wider good, regardless of religion.

Next year, the Anglican Diocese of Singapore will open the St Andrew's Autism Centre, and is planning to set up a one-stop eldercare hub to complement services at St Andrew's Community Hospital and Changi General Hospital (CGH) in the eastern part of Singapore.

 
2-year suspended ban

PARIS - RENAULT escaped severe punishment Monday for ordering former driver Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately crash, receiving only a suspended two-year ban from Formula One's governing body.

Flavio Briatore, who quit as team principal last week, was banned indefinitely from any F1 activities by the World Motor Sport Council. Engineering executive director Pat Symonds, who also left the French team last week, was banned for five years after expressing his 'eternal regret and shame' that he participated in the conspiracy.

Bae out of hospital

POPULAR South Korean actor Bae Yong Joon was discharged from a hospital on Monday after five days of treatment.

The 37-year-old was hospitalised for septicemia caused by extreme fatigue and stress, reported Yonhap news agency.

Yoga helps cancer patients

NEW YORK - MS GALE McCombie was sitting in a hospital waiting room when she spotted a brochure offering free yoga classes for cancer patients.

But zapped of strength and confidence after undergoing gruelling treatments for breast cancer, Ms McCombie found the thought of entering any exercise class intimidating.

Piquet condemns Briatore

PARIS - FORMER Renault driver Nelson Piquet criticised his former team boss Flavio Briatore and expressed bitter regret for his own role in Formula One's race-fixing controversy on Monday.

After Renault were handed a suspended two-year ban by the governing FIA for ordering Piquet to crash in Singapore last year, the Brazilian driver said he hoped another team would give him the chance to 'start from zero'.
