AS TRAVEL documents get harder to fake, a different type of passport fraud has surfaced in Singapore.

It involves foreigners who come to work here without legal papers and then want to get out of the country without the long arm of the law catching up with them.

The racket involves a would-be illegal immigrant, who enters the country on his own passport, and then quickly sells it to someone else who can use it to leave the country.

 
Titanic wildfire efforts

ATHENS - FIREFIGHTERS waged a titanic effort on Sunday to contain a massive fire in Athens' eastern suburbs that scorched a 30-kilometre swathe through one of the Greek capital's last forests.

With aerial help expected from Italy, France and Cyprus, around 400 firefighters struggled through the night to contain the wildfire that has reached the residential suburbs of Agios Stefanos, Anthousa, Gerakas and Pallini where sporadic evacuations were underway.

Online cheats on the rise

THE popularity of online shopping has drawn an increasing number of cheats here.

According to website operators, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of cheating attempts on their sites.

This month alone, at least four individuals were charged with various online-related cheating offences.

Plot an 'unverified rumour'

RECENT reports of an uncovered plot to attack the Apec Summit here is a 'completely unverified rumour', said Law Minister K Shanmugam.

But just like other major summits Singapore has played host to in the past, the country will continue to take the security of such events very seriously.

S.Korea bids Kim farewell

SEOUL - SOUTH Korea on Sunday said a solemn farewell to Mr Kim Dae Jung, who battled dictators to bring democracy and strove to make peace with communist North Korea when he became president.

Mr Kim, who died on Tuesday aged 85, was 'a great leader of modern history' who won worldwide respect, Prime Minister Han Seung Soo told a state funeral for the Nobel prizewinner.
