Ties to shape 21st century 11:01 PM

WASHINGTON - PRESIDENT Barack Obama said on Monday that the relationship between the United States and China will shape the history of the 21st century.

Mr Obama, speaking at the start of two days of high-level talks between the two countries, said that Washington and Beijing need to forge closer ties to address a host of challenges from lifting the global economy out of a deep recession to nuclear proliferation.

BUDAPEST - SERIOUSLY injured Brazilian Grand Prix driver Felipe Massa has suffered eye damage, neurosurgeon Professor Robert Veres who operated on the driver said on Monday.

The Ferrari driver suffered skull and eye injuries when he was hit on the head by a spring that broke loose from compatriot Rubens Barrichello's Brawn car during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix Saturday.

KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIAN premier Najib Razak announced on Monday more populist measures, including a promise to slash street crime, aimed at boosting investment and countering opposition gains.

Mr Najib said the government would cut crime by 20 per cent, tackle public service graft, expedite rural development, improve public transportation and widen access to quality educational institutes, the state news agency, Bernama, reported.
