Joint breakthrough plan 10:04 PM

NEW DELHI - INDIA and the United States can jointly devise a breakthrough plan for fighting climate change that will generate massive new investments and millions of jobs, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said on Sunday.

She also assured India that while the US wants it to do more to fight climate change, Washington will never impose conditions that would limit India's economic growth.

YANGON (Myanmar) - AUTHORITIES in military-run Myanmar detained dozens of opposition party members on Sunday as they returned from ceremonies marking the death of the father of jailed pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, witnesses said.

The arrests came after riot police set up barricades around the Martyr's Mausoleum where the official ceremony took place to commemorate the death of Gen. Aung San, the country's independence hero.

JAKARTA - TWIN bomb attacks that hit luxury hotels in Indonesia's capital last week have shattered years of calm won through an innovative carrot-and-stick approach to fighting terror.

The suicide bombings at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta, which police said Sunday were the work of Southeast Asian militant network Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), are the first of their kind since 2005.

7 arrested in HK plot 6:20 PM

HONG KONG - POLICE in southern China have arrested the suspected mastermind and six accomplices behind a plot to shoot Hong Kong's leading pro-democracy campaigner Martin Lee, a report said on Sunday.

The Sunday Morning Post, citing unnamed Chinese police sources, said officers in Shenzhen had arrested a Hong Kong man allegedly behind the plot and six accomplices with links to Hong Kong organised crime gangs known as triads.
