Threats will not stop him

TEHERAN - DEFEATED Iranian presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi said on Thursday that threats and pressure would not stop him from pursuing his campaign to scrap the results of the disputed election.

'I won't refrain from securing the rights of the Iranian people... because of personal interests and the fear of threats,' he said in a statement on his newspaper website, Kalemeh.

US economy dips at 5.5%

WASHINGTON - THE US economy tumbled at a 5.5 per cent pace in the first quarter, but appears to be doing better now.

The revised reading on gross domestic product, released on Thursday by the Commerce Department, showed the economy from January through March didn't fall as deeply as the 5.7 per cent annualised decline reported a month ago.

Thursday: 95 new cases

SINGAPORE has confirmed 95 new cases (221st to 315th cases) of Influenza A (H1N1-2009), bringing the total tally to 315 confirmed cases.

Of the new cases reported late on Thursday, 47 have been investigated. They include 25 local cases and 22 imported cases. The remaining 48 cases are still being investigated.

SAF's 1st Malay general

TO HEAR Colonel Ishak Ismail, 46, tell it, his decision to become a regular officer in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) was greeted with some incredulity.

KUALA LUMPUR - THE Malaysian government did not extradite terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari to Singapore because he posed a threat to Malaysia and its neighbours and also put the people's safety at risk, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said on Thursday.

The head of the Singapore cell of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terror network, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre in February last year.
