SOUTH Korea is in favour of setting up a Korean Culture Centre in Singapore to showcase its movies and pop culture to Singaporeans as well as the wider South-east Asian region.

South Korea's President Lee Myung Bak said on Wednesday night he supported the suggestion made to him by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong when they met earlier in the day.

 
Unauthorised sub-divison

THE Urban Redevelopment Authority, acting on public complaints, has taken enforcement action against Grangeford Apartments on Leonie Hill, for unauthorised use of the premises.

URA's investigations revealed that the flats were sub-divided from the original 141 units to 600, and individually leased to many sub-tenants on an en-bloc basis, as a boarding house or hostel use.

S'pore reports 2 more cases

SINGAPORE confirmed two more cases of Influenza A (H1N1-2009) on Wednesday evening, bringing the number of reported cases so far to 11.

Both patients were on the same flight - Singapore Airlines SQ25 from New York via Frankfurt on Monday - as the 7th confirmed case, a 30-year-old Australian male tourist who was seated at Row 54. The flight arrived in Singapore at 6.18am that day, said a statement from the Ministry of Health on Wednesday night.

Barclays stake sold

TEMASEK Holdings has sold its stake of almost 2 per cent in British banking giant Barclays in December and January, according to an unsourced Reuters report.

Both parties declined comment when contacted by The Straits Times on Wednesday. A Temasek spokesman said: 'We don't comment on unsourced reports.'

Student leader turns self in

HONG KONG - THE second most-wanted student leader from the 1989 Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests arrived in the southern Chinese territory of Macau to turn himself in Wednesday, a day before the 20th anniversary of China's brutal crackdown.

Mr Wu'er Kaixi told The Associated Press by phone on Wednesday that immigration officials at Macau's airport took him to a room after he arrived from Taipei. He was not immediately told if he will be allowed to enter the territory.
