Tighter checks welcomed

PSYCHOLOGISTS, counsellors and other experts on Friday welcomed tighter checks on sexuality education programmes in schools by the Education Ministry, but said more attention should be paid to two weak links in the system: Parents and teachers.

In interviews with The Straits Times, several experts said these two groups of people are not fully equipped to pass on the right information and values to children.

Singh sworn in again

NEW DELHI - DR MANMOHAN Singh was sworn in on Friday for a second term as India's prime minister in a ceremony at the presidential palace in New Delhi.

The 76-year-old Dr Singh read out his oath of office before Indian president Pratibha Patil. He was followed by 19 members of his new cabinet.

Suu Kyi has 'no guilt'

YANGON - MYANMAR democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi proclaimed her innocence in front of a prison tribunal on Friday, her lawyer said.

'Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said 'I have no guilt as I didn't commit any crime,'' Nyan Win said at the end of the fifth day of her trial on charges of breaching the conditions of her house arrest.
