Layoffs slow, but jobs few 11:01 PM

WASHINGTON - US COMPANIES may be laying off workers at a slower pace, but that doesn't mean more businesses are hiring.

There were 2.7 million jobs available nationwide in March, according to a government report released on Tuesday, down from 3 million in February and 4 million a year ago. It's also the lowest number in the eight years the Labour Department has tracked job openings.

EU to conduct stress tests 1:06 AM

BRUSSELS - THE European Union will stress test its banking system by September to determine its resilience to the economic downturn and find out if it is adequately capitalised, EU sources and banking supervisors said on Tuesday.

The stress tests will be done by national supervisors according to common guidelines and methodology of the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS).

MILAN - FERRARI will quit Formula One at the end of season if the sport adopts a budget cap for 2010, the champions said on Tuesday after a board meeting.

'No F1 in 2010 if the rules do not change. Ferrari confirms its opposition to the new rules imposed by FIA and does not intend to register cars for the 2010 F1 world championship,' a statement said.
