YANGON - MYANMAR'S detained democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday met visiting UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari, outlining conditions for dialogue with the junta as the diplomat struggled to make a breakthrough.
Mr Gambari is in Myanmar to try to push all sides in the military-ruled nation toward dialogue on democratic reform, after his last visit in August 2008 ended in deadlock with Aung San Suu Kyi refusing to meet him.
JAKARTA - INDONESIAN Islamic hardliners have called for a ban on international organisations the Rotary Club and the Lions Club, saying they are part of a Zionist conspiracy, reports said on Monday.
The People's Ulema Forum (FUU) said the clubs were 'infidel' fronts for Freemasonry and the world Zionist movement and threatened Islam in the world's most populous Muslim country.
